Well the fall fishing tournaments have begun. It’s 6 weeks of fishing for the largest walleye in Lake Erie!!!
Is there anything better? Not when it comes to exercise. I absolutely love walking along the lake for my daily workout. There is just something so peaceful. I always cut through a small lake community that reminds me of my grandmas home town in West Virginia. I don’t quite know what it is but it makes me smile every time. I love to walk down by the marina and see all the fishermen. Sometimes i stop and chat and sometimes i just say hello. The scenery is always breathtaking and everyone is so friendly.
The weather outlook for this week is WET! Lots and lots of rain. Seems to be the theme this summer. After the 4 of us ate lunch today we saw there was a few hour break in the weather. We headed to the lake (of course) and walked around looking for seaglass. The girls actually found some pretty great pieces!
We took our yearly beach picture that we have recreated 3 times now!!!
John and i took a photo on the end of the pier where we got engaged!
These crazy kids never listen. The pier literally says no jumping or diving but here they are jumping 😂
On the way home we stopped at the local ice cream shop. The girls and John enjoyed a treat. The only sugar free yogurt option was butter pecan so i passed and made myself a treat later in the day!
There is nothing better then small lake towns. Well ok there might be some better things, but to me this is my happiness. I love having Lake Erie right in my backyard. I love the calmness and uniqueness of these small towns that line the coast. In the summer the streets are lined with tourist and locals enjoying restaurants, bars, festivals and of course the lake. In the winter it is quiet and peaceful. Small town America is my happiness. I am and always be just a small town girl and i finally met my small town guy! Today we enjoyed Huron, Ohio from the water!
The lake brings a sense of calm to my life. Whether I’m on land, on a boat, swimming or laying on the beach, i am at peace!
These first few photos i took from my parents house in Huron. I am so blessed to have access to this gorgeous area!
The next few photos i took while on the boat fishing. There was a poker run passing through Huron and heading to Put-In-Bay. It was really neat to see all the fancy and colorful cigarette boats. It was also very exciting to see the film crew in the helicopter chasing and hovering over them!
Saturday was absolutely gorgeous out on Lake Erie. My dad, husband and i set out to fish for perch. They were not biting so we decided to troll for walleye. We were much more successful with that.
We’ve made it a tradition that the boys need to eat a Payday when fishing. Actually we believe the fish don’t start biting until the payday has been bit into!
In the Huron river they are dredging out near the pier. Kind of fun and interesting to watch!
The boys set off early this morning to go walleye fishing. The river was still rolling like the ocean and it was cluttered with trees. At one point under the bridge, the river became somewhat of a whirlpool. But never fear, the boys made it through and fished for hours on Lake Erie!
My mom and i stayed back at the house. I wasn’t feeling 100% and a day of relaxation sounded wonderful. My mom spent the morning baking cookies for my nieces birthday. Abby spent the day laying around and watching tv!
After i ate some toast i went for a walk to the beach. I brought my camera and attempted to find the boys on the water. I was unsuccessful but i did capture some beautiful photos.
At this point in the morning i was starting to feel more human. I walked back to the house and decided to go for a morning walk. It was exactly what i needed. It was also getting really hot out but the scenery was so beautiful that i just wanted to keep walking. I passed several other women walking down lake road. I passed several bicyclist who looked like they were training for the Olympics. Seriously they always look so graceful riding at such a fast speed! I walked through some small lake communities and surprisingly they were pretty quiet. The marina parking lot was full of trucks and trailers, but the marina itself was pretty quiet also. I did see a family of Amish sitting outside by a fire enjoying some lunch together. We exchanged hellos and i was on my way back to the house.
Saturday was hot and beautiful. During the day we went up to Marblehead Ohio to fish. Check out how packed this parking lot is. The boat ramp at Mazurik was packed and it made my heart so happy to see so many people out and enjoying the weather!
We caught so many blue gill and white perch. At one point every cast i made, i hooked a fish. We didn’t keep any but it was so much fun!
After dinner we returned to the lake. This time we were fishing for walleye off the pier in Huron, Ohio. We didn’t catch any but ugh there were so many out there. We could hear and see them chasing bait fish but they weren’t fooled by my lures! Oh well it was amazing to fish under the glow of the moon with my wonderful husband!
While the boys played on the boat, i played with my youngest and my niece. Wow they kept me busy but we also had a lot of fun! My oldest was with us for a short period of time but she had to work stage crew at the high school all afternoon and evening!
The girls also work hard on making the deviled eggs, potato salad and preparing the watermelon for our cookout!
After we ate i taught the girls how to play tetherball. It was one of my favorite games to play with my classmates!
Then the rope came untied. The girls thought they could fix it themselves but i found a neighbor with a ladder and we fixed it! But it was hilarious watching them try to figure it out themselves
Then……we played tennis. Can you tell why I’m so exhausted!?!
I slowly walked back to the house but oh these two still had more energy!
The boys spent the day getting the boat ready to drop in Lake Erie!
